Love Local Organic Produce,
can't afford it . . .
Come and join our team of volunteers.

You do not have to come every week, all that we ask is that you come for a minimum of 4 hours (at least for your first visit so that we can familiarise you with what goes on where, location of tools etc.) and also so that there is enough time to get into a joc and to be able to see that you have accomplished someting by the time you have finished.
It is best to wear old clothes - our soil stains quite a lot and clothes never seem to get get back to how they were. Some sturdy footwear and some gloves may be advisable too.
After your first session, make sure that you complete our volunteer record sheet so that we know how much time you have given us, and we can then calculate your working credit
Getting your produce. If you live within our delivery area we can deliver your order on a Thursday or Friday (depending on where you live). You can place your order via our on-line order form, or e-mail us your shopping list, or telephone. If you do not live within our delivery area, or if you do not have anywhere safe for us to leave the box then you may collect it from the farm. We will deduct the value of your box from your working credit. You do not have to spend it all each week, you can roll your credit over for up to to four weeks
You do not have to work every week, or on the same day each time, just contact us in advance to let us know when you can offer us some time, so that we can plan what work we can set aside for you.
What type of work is involved?
This year so far it has mainly been weeding, the weeds got ahead of us this Spring and so we have been fighting to keep them under control. As the days get shorter all the growing slows down and so the autumn tasks will be to tidy up the poly tunnels and prepare them for Winter salad leaves and Chards. Later we will be clearing the Summer plants from the field, completing the fruit cage, edging the paths, and prepareing the land for next seasons plants.
In the depths of winter there will be what we call "jungle bashing" - clearing bramble plants from the perimeter of our field, and some harvesting of cabbages, kale and brussel sprouts. The week leading up to Christmas is ususally fairly hectic making boxes for delivery.
In the early Spring we will be planting seeds in our greenhouses so as to give our plants a head start before they get planted outside.
Late Spring is a manic time planting the baby plants outside and preparing the tunnels for Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers, Aubergines and Melons, and also to try and cath the weeds when they can be dealt with swiftly with a hoe. If we can keep the field hoed it will save the amount of enery we used this year in tugging up large weeds.
So you can see there is work all the year round, you are not obliged to work through the Winter months, but we are grateful for any help at any time.
If this venture sounds interesting to you then please contact us between 11.00am and 4.00 pm or sends us an email.
