Our Growing Policy

How are quality fruit and vegetables produced without the use of chemicals?

The crops require the development of healthy, fertile soil, which is achieved by three means:

  1. Strict rotation of a diversity of crops.
  2. Green manuring - ie sowing fast growing crops such as mustard, red clover etc which absorb and fix nutrients from the air and soil and are then ploughed back in.
  3. Composted vegetable matter added to the soil

Pests are controlled by birds, predatory insects and strict rotation of crops. Weeds are controlled by "hard work" by hand and hoe and to some extent by mulching.
