Organic vegetables are produced without the use of chemical
fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides. The use of genetically modified
organisms is absolutely prohibited."Organic" is a term strictly
defined by law.
All producers selling vegetables and fruit as organic, must
be certified as an organic producer by an Authorised Body, (ie Organic
Farmers and Growers or Soil Association) who are approved by UKROFS (UK
Register of Organic Food Standards) and inspected at least annually by
the Certification Body. It will normally take three or more years to
convert land to organic production, to ensure there are no residual
chemicals in the soil.
